Artist's statement
This is the only urban exterior in the Portrait series. The bokeh circles are not decorative. They are the city refusing to resolve into specificity, and the subject is the only sharp element in the frame. That hierarchy is the image. Everything else blurs. She does not.
The wide aperture was non-negotiable. The grain is deliberate, pushed to reference street photography rather than the clean studio aesthetic. The earrings catch small highlights that echo the larger bokeh circles, creating a visual rhyme between ornament and environment.
The Portrait series needs at least one frame that takes the subject out of controlled space and puts her in the world. The confidence in the gaze is not manufactured. It is the confidence of someone who has stepped outside and discovered she is still the most interesting thing in the frame.
